Updates From Lysa

The dust has settled from the House of Blues event which was nothing short of magical. To hear Carol Woods and Tim Mitchum from “Across the Universe” sing Let it Be just floored me. Ben Affleck is one of the most eloquent and beautiful speakers I have witnessed in a long time. I didn’t write a speech as usual and ended up a blubbering mess. Sheryl Crow was amazing and is beyond stunning.  We are now in the process of putting the board together as well as the board of advisers for Children Mending Hearts. We are also meeting with corporations for sponsorship. I am utterly right-brained and want to go play with kids in Harlem and Africa, I don’t want to be selling myself over carpaccio and lattes. I know it’s all part of the package, but I am in complete and utter agony. We are holding our first salon in April, which I am very excited about, followed by one in San Francisco and New York. I am also in the process of creating my next exchange. I think I have some fairly good ideas that will make the kids really happy and full of joy.

Peace,

Hi Lysa, I love your enthusiasm for the cause you support and all you do with your organization is wonderful. I use to work as a volunteer in a small organization in Spain to help children and it was a great experience. A while ago, a friend introduced me to what you’re doing and this is truly amazing. I think we should all get involved in something and do our best to help other people, women and children. Your commitment is examplary!

I’m always impressed by people choosing to commit and being true about it. Back when I was a volunteer, our organization had the support of Max Dana, a French designer/writer who helped us spread the word about our actions. Her help was so helpful, she really made the kids happy… So I know true commitments, like yours or hers, can achieve great things. I’m not in touch with her anymore as I don’t work for the organization anymore, but I keep following what she does, and she’s still supporting organizations and events for Human Rights, Darfur, Africa and children. That’s her blog: http://blog.maxdana.com.
    Darfur: http://blog.maxdana.com/tag/darfur/
    Human Rights: http://blog.maxdana.com/worksprojects/every-human-has-rights-60-signers-for-the-60th-anniversary/

I hope my comment was ‘useful’ (I don’t comment a lot) but it was the opportunity for me to tell you all the good I think of you. Thanks again for everything you do, you’re inspiring to me and to many others.

I just read your post about not wanting to be selling yourself and just wanting to go play with children in Harlem and Africa. Boy! can I relate. I am the founder of the International Association for Child Aid Organizations and we are just getting started in India. Thats where I have roamed, played, worked and lived at different times over the past 42 years. Since the concept of the IACAO became a working reality I have been spending untold hours at my desk writing memos, filling out government applications, talking to lawyers, developing contacts and recruiting participants for our pilot program to begin in Bangalore later this year, I’ll bet you can relate. And what I really want to do is return to India and to my work with her incredibly inflicted children. I guess it is part of the price we pay for the privilege to be of service to those of our brothers and sisters in need.
